Yuba City raised $9000 for South Asian Quake Victims

    Yuba City, October 22, 2005. An event organized by Punjabi American Heritage Society (PAHS) of Yuba City to help recent quake victims in Kashmir netted close to $ 9000. The event was organized at Star of India restaurant on October 20, 2005. Event started with 20 minutes documentary about spirit of Seva (selfless service). It sat the tone of evening. People were given the choice to make direct donations to organization of their preference.


    United Sikhs a US based non profit organization based on the concept of Bhai Ghaniya (serve the needy irrespective of their religion, race or nationality etc) is currently helping the quake victims in India and Pakistan. Jatinder Singh, a regional director of United Sikhs made a power point presentation and made a passionate plea to the audience to support the United Sikhs in rebuilding over 100 homes in Barmula area in Kashmir. Most donations were made to United Sikhs and some guests chose to write checks to American Red Cross. Refreshments were provided by PAHS to all the guests. PAHS is a non profit organization founded in 1993. Last month it raised over $23000 for Katrina hurricane victims.
