Join us to welcome hero Lt. Brian Murphy at 21ST Punjabi American Festival

Police Officer Brian Murphy, along with his family, will be attending the 21st Annual Punjabi American Festival as our Chief Guest on May 24, 2015 at the Yuba Sutter Fairgrounds. For those who may not know, Officer Murphy survived 15 rounds of bullets to his body while trying to save innocent American lives at the Sikh Temple Gurdwara shooting tragedy in Oak Creek Wisconsin (2012). Since the shooting, Murphy has been recognized twice by President Barack Obama: first, at the 2013 State of the Union and later, with the award of “Top Cop in July 2013.” Murphy retired from the Oak Creek Police Department in June 2013.

A documentary about the tragedy, “Waking in Oak Creek”, promotes cross cultural and interfaith friendship and will be shown at the festival at 3:00pm in Franklin Hall. Following the showing, Lt. Brian Murphy will be honored for his sacrifice at 4:15pm on the Main Stage.

The Punjabi American festival will start at 11:00 AM and ends at sunset. Attended by thousands of people from California and other states, hundreds of students will perform on stage along with internationally acclaimed Punjabi artists. This year Miss Pooja, Amy Virk, Gitta Bain and Manna Dhillon from India will be performing at the event. Indian Idol finalist Davenrdra Pal Singh (lovingly called Chotte Sardar by legendary Asha Bhosle) will make special guest appearance at the event.

Eight scholarships will be awarded to deserving local high school students.

Fifty plus booths and exhibits are expected to don the fairgrounds to add different flavors to the event.
